Upper & Lower Body Connection

In the last article, I explained the importance of toes and how they affect the whole body by showing an neck treatment example using a toe point.

Although I have been emphasizing on the importance of lower body so far, the human body is a complex system and all body parts are interconnected.

The upper body is as important as the lower body.

Today, I will show another example, using my own body, how a shoulder is connected to a leg.

Yesterday, I woke up with a low back pain (Yes, I have to admit that I am aging...).

I felt discomfort around the right side iliac crest area. When I bent forward, I felt tightness on the right hamstring area.

I was experimenting on myself and excluded the effect of toes this time.

Then, I recalled that my right shoulder was hurting during my daily exercises.

The range of motion of right shoulder adduction was limited compared to the left side.

The shoulder blades and the ilia are interconnected. When something happens to the shoulder blades, it affects the ilia and vice versa.

The shoulder blades connect arms to the core whereas the ilia connect legs to it. Observing arm and leg movements tells you the states of the shoulder blades and the ilia.

I may use the shoulder blades to treat lower body complaints or use the ilia to treat upper body complaints.

This time, I used the point on the outer edge of the shoulder blade to release the low back muscle and hamstring.

This point is closed to "Small Intestine 9 (SI9)" in the standard acupuncture. It is called Fukura2 in SEIDO acupuncture.

As I needled myself, the point is a little off from the actual point.

You can probably see that my back is not rounded as much after the acupuncture when I am bending forward in the video.

Also, my hands are touching the ground after the acupuncture.

Twisting and side bending movements also improved, but I thought it was easier to observe the difference with the forward bend.

Nonetheless to say, the range of motion of my right shoulder improved after the acupuncture.

It was difficult to hit the accurate acupuncture point on myself, but this is just to show how the body is interconnected.  I hope it gives you some ideas.
